Make Me a Blessing

Let me first take this time to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving, for it is truly a time of giving thanks to our Heavenly Father and the giver of all things!

I remember as a boy loving it when we would have Hymn singings or as some would say in our north Georgia town of Rome, GA “having a sangin’ ” My favorite song out of the old Broadman Hymnal was Hymn # 100 which was Make Me a Blessing. I would raise my hand in hopes that I would be chosen to pick the next song. It was always the same, Make Me a Blessing. I had a boy soprano voice and also sang in the local Boys Club Choir; therefore, as we reached the last few measures of the chorus I would reach for the sky and could be heard all over the church. Not out of pride but because I truly wanted to be a blessing to people. I did however like bellowing those last high notes.

The words are very powerful; so, I would like to share them with you.  The message in this old hymn is our mission in life and work at K&K to help you be a blessing and to advance the kingdom by reaching the lost for Christ. The last words of the third verse are mine and your challenge, “Unto your mission be true.” Not to waver the calling that God has given us and fight the good fight of faith. The world is depending on us.

Out in the highways and byways of life,
Many are weary and sad;
Carry the sunshine where darkness is rife,
Making the sorrowing glad.
Make me a blessing, make me a blessing,
Out of my life may Jesus shine;
Make me a blessing, O Savior, I pray,
Make me a blessing to someone today.
Tell the sweet story of Christ and His love,
Tell of His pow’r to forgive;
Others will trust Him if only you prove
True, every moment you live.
Give as ’twas given to you in your need,
Love as the Master loved you;
Be to the helpless a helper indeed,
Unto your mission be true.
