Paralyzing Fears

Do your fears paralyze you?

Recently, I was riding in the passanger seat of my husband, Ashton’s, truck. I saw a spider on the dash board and I did the only logical thing, curl up in a tiny ball in my seat and freeze. Ashton said, “Just get the shoe and kill it.” By the time I got the shoe I could not find the spider anywhere so I climbed in the back seat. It was then that Ashton made a very good point.

He asked me, “Libby, how many times have you been bitten by a spider in your life?”

I said, “Zero.”

Ashton said, “So you are frozen in your seat because you are scared of something that has never harmed you before. You could have gotten the shoe the second you saw the spider and would not have to worry about it anymore but instead you let it pursuade you into making an irrational decision.”

As he made that statement the gears in both of our brains started turnning, we began to think about the situation on a deeper level.

Are your fears paralyzing you?

Are they blinding you from making the right or logical decision?

I forgot how big I was compared to that tiny spider, heck, how big the shoe was compared to the spider. After everything settled down I made my way back to the front seat and started thinking, that’s ironic, we do that with God. At least, I know I do sometimes.

When I fear something going on in my life sometimes I seem to forget how big God is compared to my fear or the situation. I get so caught up in the moment that the tiny mountain seems vastly larger than it actually is. This can lead to a variety of emotions; stress, worry, fear, irrational decision making, ect. All of which are not what God wants for us.

“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

Looking back, I now see how extremely silly I was in dealing with the spider. I learned something, when an unsettling event happens in my life I will take a second to breathe and pray for Gods wisdom, remembering that HE can move mountains. All my fears are crushed under His feet.

Have faith and meditate on the fact that our God is bigger than all of our fears.
